travel and contract FAQ

travel and short term contract FAQs

Are there any additional fees above and beyond the hourly rate?
No. Our hourly rate is all-inclusive and is billed to you based on actual hours worked by the employee. The hourly rate encompasses all of the following:

  • Marketing, Advertising, and Recruiting fees
  • Full Candidate Screening and Referencing
  • Hourly wages
  • Payroll taxes
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Worker's Compensation
  • Health Insurance
  • Round-trip travel/transportation
  • Furnished, private housing or monthly subsidy
  • Licensure reimbursement
  • 401k
  • Other employee benefits and perks
  • Administrative fees

In addition, many of our client facilities are now offering completion bonuses to candidates as an additional incentive in this demanding, competitive marketplace. In this case, Randstad Healthcare will pay the bonus directly to the employee at the completion of the assignment and invoice the facility the following week.

What type of screening do you do on candidates before placing them?
As a Joint Commission certified healthcare staffing service, Randstad Healthcare maintains some of the most rigorous screening requirements in the industry, and in fact we only accept approximately 1 out of 4 applicants. We take care of the due diligence so you do not have to. Our process includes but is not limited to a phone interview to screen for cultural fit as a contract employee or traveler, thorough reference checks which must include verification of at least one year of experience in their specialty and validation of clinical and professional skills, national database sanction checks (OIG, GSA, EPLS) and license verification, competency testing, a criminal background check and drug testing as well as a recent physical, TB test and immunization history. Additionally we are experienced at customizing our screening process to include any additional screening and/or orientation and training to meet the unique needs of your facility at no additional cost to you.

What are your time requirements to fill orders?
The length of time required to find a qualified candidate can range from one hour to several days. We have pre-qualified candidates actively available in our system and ready to respond to last minute needs, hard to fill positions, and changes in census. This may vary depending upon availability of staff, licensure, specialty of the healthcare professional, location, and pay rate or other incentives.

Can I extend a traveler or contract employee?
Extensions for Randstad Healthcare travelers are available at your request. We encourage our clients to extend travelers as a way to provide continuity of coverage. We can extend travelers for any length of time that meets the needs of your facility.

Is there a fee if we hire one of your travelers or contract employees on a direct basis?
There is no direct hire fee once a candidate has completed 26-weeks of work at your facility as a traveler or contract employee with Randstad Healthcare. As you know, this time period gives you a good chance to evaluate and monitor the candidate's skills and performance in determining whether or not they would be a good permanent fit for your facility. A direct hire is defined as any permanent full-time, part-time or pool position where they no longer remain on Randstad Healthcare's payroll. Should you choose to hire a Randstad Healthcare employee prior to the completion of 26 weeks, there would be a nominal placement fee incurred by your facility which would be outlined in your staffing agreement with Randstad Healthcare. In this instance, a minimum of 30-day notice is requested.

Are you Joint Commission certified?
Randstad Healthcare's staffing solutions are Joint Commission certified. We are dedicated to quality patient care and performance improvement, and recognize the impact that our supplemental staff will have on the patient care that is delivered at our client facilities. Since 2005, Randstad Healthcare's Director of Operations, Melissa Knybel, RN, BSN, has been a member of the very first Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services Certification Advisory Council. The purpose of the Council is to further define quality standards in the industry, as well as facilitate feedback from organizations and improve the performance and value of the healthcare staffing certification program. Randstad Healthcare's Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Certification supports the hospitals own quality improvement efforts and compliance with Joint Commission standards.

Are you a member of NATHO (the National Association of Travel Healthcare Organizations)?
Randstad Healthcare is not only a member of NATHO, but we are a founding member involved in the organization since its infancy. NATHO was founded in 2008 to promote ethical business practices in the travel healthcare industry, setting the gold standard for conduct that is aligned among member agencies on behalf of travel healthcare candidates and clients. NATHO stresses the importance of maintaining the highest standards in the industry with honesty, objectivity, integrity, and competency. NATHO agencies are expected to uphold the established code of ethics and standards of practice, and if they fail to do so, facilities working with that agency will have the opportunity to file a formal complaint. Once a formal complaint has been filed, a hearing will be conducted which could result in disciplinary action, including reprimands, sanctions, and even termination of NATHO’s membership.
